Personal Profile
Dr. Xavier Francis Ichani, Ph.D. is a scholar of armed conflict and peace and conflict practitioner with 17 years military experience in the Kenya Defence Forces. I hold Bachelor of Education (Arts) and Master of Arts (Armed Conflict and Peace Studies) from the University of Nairobi and Doctor of Philosophy in History of International Studies from Egerton University. I previously taught at the Kenya Military Academy and Egerton University. I joined Kenyatta University in 2017 as member of Faculty at the Department of International Relations, Conflict and strategic Studies and now department of security, diplomacy and peace studies. As lecturer and scholar, I have been involved in teaching, research, curriculum development, developments of instructional materials, supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students undertaking peace and conflict management, security studies and international relations. I have individually authored and co-authored a number of papers in high ranking peer reviewed journals. I also server as Journal reviewer of the International Journal of Research and Innovation in Social Science (IJRISS). Dr Ichani has also participated in international workshop on peace and conflict management. I am also visiting lecturer at Jubba University where I lecture on Peace and Security.

Presented on Nature of Conflict in Africa, AU/UN Partnership in Missions, Dealing with Injury, Disability and Death in Missions, Personnel briefing and crises procedure in missions and mission simulation exercises.
  • 18-19 October 2022: Dr Xavier Ichani participated in the international workshop on “Universalization and Effective Implementation of the Biological Weapons Convention in Eastern Africa” Held At Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa, Mombasa, Kenya.
  • 27 January 2022:  Dr Xavier Ichani participated in the international online workshop “Community based conflict management in urban and rural areas of East Africa,” 27 January 2022. The workshop was organized in collaboration between Uppsala University (Department of Peace and Conflict Research) and Kenyatta University (School of Security, Diplomacy and Peace Studies). Dr Ichani presented a paper on the theme “Economic interventions and peace building in conflict affected communities in rural Kenya,” and served as a discussant on one paper. In addition, he participated actively and constructively with comments and questions throughout the workshop.
  • 26-27 May 2020 : Dr Xavier Ichani participated in the international online workshop “Community based responses to violent conflict: Actors and strategies,” 26-27 May 2020. The workshop was organized in collaboration between Uppsala University (Department of Peace and Conflict Research) and Kenyatta University (School of Security, Diplomacy and Peace Studies). Dr Ichani presented a paper on the theme “Ethics in Internal Military Intervention: An evaluation of State Response on Intra-Communal Conflict among the Sabaot of Mount Elgon Sub-county, Bungoma County, Kenya,” and served as a discussant on a panel with papers on water-related communal conflict. In addition, he participated actively and constructively with comments and questions throughout the workshop.
